In the midst of the art of film, some films just manage to get downright original, creepy, weird, strange, and have ridiculously cool or ridiculously lame twist endings to them. This is a section Tyler has dedicated to such films we like to call "Mind-F*&%s". So sit back and let this section take you on a peculiar journey throughout some of the best and worst Mind-F*&% films ever made.
Lucky Number Slevin
What does a gangster, a Rabii, a contract killer and a random shmuck have in common? A sure thing. This movie was one of the best twist movie's i have ever watched. It lets you know its a twist movie without letting you know its a twist movie! i know that may be hard to follow, but one thing sums this movie up, "Kansas city shuffle". "While everyone is looking left, you go right" and thats exactly what this movie does, leads you perfectly in one direction and then totally changes direction. honeslty this movie has every great natural actor you could ask for. you have Ben kingsly (the rabii), Morgan freeman (The gangster), Bruce willis (The contract killer) and finally Josh hartnett (The Random shmuck). With quite frankly a few amazing actors and actress's in smaller but still pivotal rolls. It's an edge of your seat thriller, with slow moments but action is never more then a few steps behind. Although it is an action thriller, it is also slightly a comedy with lots of very funny parts. This movie for me is getting a 5.5/5 as it has everything you could imagine, and it all gets wrappred up with a tiny little bow, it wasn't so much of a "WHAT?!" movie as it was an "Oh, thats just too cool!!" You will not see it coming.

Devil
After "The Sixth Sense" "Signs" and "The Village" I know your probably thinking, "Can he really do it again?" Well yes he can in short. I will say I was a little skeptical at first wheather or not this would be an enjoyable movie or not, since it had been a while since M.Night Shyamalan had done a "What a twist movie" but was plesently surprised. The movie starts out and gives you a little piece of all the parties involved in the movie with
a bit of a "Motive" if you will. To make sure that you can't just guess off the bat who the "bad guy" is. In the great movie finesse the director manages to keep you in the dark as to what really is going on inside the elevator, by dimming the lights, or cutting quickly before the action is made. The best part for me was I went into the movie thinking "This movie probabley won't be very good" but within a few scenes quickly forgot about my previous misconception
and found myself locked onto the screen trying to see little hints that might lead to the ending, but found none. This movie is not a heavily religious thumping movie, and kinda actually deals with the darker side of religion, as pointed to in the title. The acting was very well done considering for the entirity of the movie
they are trapped in an elevator. but still manage to keep you interested in the movie, becuase you're able to connect with all there stories on some level. The ending wraps everything up with a neat little bow, in only a way Shyamalan can. And for those of you wondering.. yes as always he makes an appearence in the film. In this movie all i have to say is "Expect the unexpected" He leads you in one direction only to bring you back and then back again. Im giving this film a 4.5/5 as i thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. It gets the extra .5 for being a "what a twist" movie that i actually have watched more then once and still enjoyed, as usually once you know the twist its not quite the ride any more, but i found with this film that the premise was so...for lack of a better word "cool" and engaging.

Fracture
Anthony Hopkins, mind game thriller, 'nuff said?? I thought so. As usual he gives an amazing performance and you see hints of Dr. Hannibal Lector throughout the entire film. Ryan Gosling plays a very convincing, always winning, go-for-it prosecuter. As for twists, the movie has a few rather brilliant ones. However, they all require very obscure coincidences that if not in the script, may not have happened so perfectly in the real world. For me, Anthony Hopkins' performance is what makes the movie worth the watch, it seemed kinda dry tho, in the sense that even the scenes that were supposed to be "Thrilling" or "nail-biting" ended up coming off as kinda dull, and i didn't find myself in the moment for any of it. For the movie I wanted it to be, it was very dry. For the movie it turned out to be, it was worth a rent, maybe on a rainy day. If your a fan of Anthony Hopkins, you will enjoy him very much in this movie. If you are not, then i would probably give it a pass.

The Game
As far as what a twist movies go this one is nothing short of an intense "what the hell" ride! I've watched quite a few movies over the years, and to be honest i haven't been this impressed by a movie that prides it's self on a "twist" ending in a long time...ok lets face it ever. It just has everything, including Sean penn who plays the perfect character
in my opinon for him, and Micheal Douglas who plays the perfect older more succesful brother. Its not just one of those put it in the dvd player and zone out movies, its extremley engaging and quite frankly had me on the edge of my seat yelling "Are you serious?!" "Are you really serious?!" only then to completley be blowin away again. It's not only an ending twist movie either, im pretty good at figureing out where movies are going with in the first 20-25 minutes and im not saying general plot im saying i usually figure out the whole movie within that time frame. So when i say this is one of the best movies as far as keeping you guessing i have ever watched is an understatement! Im not going to give anything away because i truly want you to enjoy this movie just as much as i did. I proudly give this movie a 5/5 and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good ride!
